Commissioned by

The City of Leeuwarden, Leeuwarden 2018 and the provincial project “Friesian Lakes”.

BOISEN was commissioned in 2014 and worked together with the Hilversum-based landscape architectural firm Karres & Brands.

The Context

Leuwaarden is the capitial of the Dutch province of Friesland. It’s a small, picturesque town with around 100.000 inhabitants who bested other Dutch cities like Utrecht, Maastricht and Eindhoven for the title as European Capital of Culture in 2018.

Our Contribution

Together with Karres & Brands we developed a masterplan for the waterways around the city to prepare for the European Capital of Culture in 2018.

The masterplan focused on different interventions to increase the interaction between the water and the shore in terms of experiences and economic activities.
